Earnest Worship
If you’ve found this page, you’re either lost or earnestly seeking worship. I hope it’s the second. I’ve started this blog as a place to consolidate my studies as I journey to a richer and more-biblically-based theology of worship. I hope you will join me on that journey.
Let me start out with introductions. My name is Don Blakeney. I am a full-time Worship Pastor with a heart for pastoring other worshippers…if that makes sense. I am a blessed man. My wife, Sarah, and I have two teenagers, Caleb & Leah. I graduated with my doctorate in Worship Studies in 2019. I have been a full-time Worship Pastor for almost 20 years now. I currently serve in North Alabama. In my free time, I enjoy Auburn basketball, old school 80’s wrestling, and hiking.
Here is my disclaimer: I will never claim to know everything. I approach this page as a place of open discussion. I have spent years studying and developing my own theology of worship. I understand it is imperfect and messy, hence the title of the blog. I want to earnestly seek Him in worship. That is my heart. I hope we can learn how to do that together. Feel free to comment, introduce yourself, or add your input (just keep it civil).
“O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.” Psalm 63: 1-3
Dr. Don Blakeney, DWS is a worship pastor and author in Albertville, Alabama. He is a graduate of the University of Mobile and Liberty University. He and his wife, Sarah, have been married for 15 years. They have two children and a Great Pyrenees named Maggie.
